(Prosperity Consciousness)

When I started my spiritual journey in the spring of 1970, my employer introduced me to Science of Mind church, also known as Church of Religious Science. Coming from a traditional Christian background, with abundant faith, I learned that I had far more choice as to how to direct my ongoing life. As a single mother of four in the 1970’s, I was introduced to a new way of looking at experience. I did not need to remain caught in a repeating pattern of wanting or needing, at times falling short on delivery. It was an eye opening experience for me, realizing what was possible with an educated mindset. Educated on what? Faith in my Creator? I had plenty of that. That was how I survived! For the simple explanation, it was like learning to become a co-creator in my life, and not be just a passive receiver. It took a while; but it did take place. Where to begin? Mindset!
As you can imagine, my economic situation was a priority, so one of the areas of focus was to stop living a poverty consciousness life. I didn’t even know there was such a thing. I had been taught to work hard, be honest, give gratitude for my blessings, make-do, and have faith. Now, there is nothing wrong with that list, unless you accidentally limit yourself to a make-do life. How do you engineer prosperity when you have always anticipated and accepted survival standards? You don’t. In my relative ignorance I could see the flaw in my thinking. How do you fix that? I joined whatever classes were offered and started to re-educate myself away from a make-do mindset, to one of prosperity and success. Along the way, I learned what I needed; but I also enjoyed the journey as my life slowly and quietly improved in many other areas as well. It was not difficult, but it took an open mind and persistence.
Picture an iceberg floating in the sea; a small portion of it is visible, but the vast portion is submerged. The generally accepted percentage is 10% visible, 90% submerged, depending on whether it is freshwater or seawater in composition. Metaphor: to me, visibility equates to consciousness. Not visible equates to unconsciousness. We run our lives with our easily accessible (visible) minds. That means we are doing the whole of our existence using only 10% of what we have available in consciousness. What if we could get in touch with our unconscious (invisible) mind? How much more of life could we experience?
Take this metaphor a step further. The iceberg floats in a sea of consciousness beyond our personal iceberg. That personal iceberg is composed of and created by that sea. What if we could get in touch with that sea of consciousness? Same question! How much more of life could we experience?
The iceberg metaphor represents your own mind. You can experience as much of it as you are willing to invest the time and effort to reach. Once you have that mastered, who knows how much more you can access and develop within that sea of consciousness that has both formed and informed your individual consciousness? Inspiration is a good keyword! How do we access that?
First, we need to give ourselves permission to reach beyond our comfort zone. It might not be all we want from life, but we are familiar and comfortable with our knowns. Are you willing to open the door wider so you can have more and be more? It is always your life and your choice.
- You can stay where you are, frustrations and all.
- You can curl back the edge to see beyond.
- You can jump right back into your safe knowns and exist.
- You can screw up your courage and give yourself permission to examine and develop all that you are or can be.
I chose that path of becoming and 55+ years later I got to here. Am I all that could be? Probably not, YET! Am I more than I was? YES! Do I keep that door open and go for the opportunities that present such possibilities. YES! Have I done it all? NOT YET! I am still wearing a body! That is the first clue that you are still in Earth School. Once we stop caring or trying, it will be time to leave this schoolhouse lesson that we call our lifetime, to begin a new journey of becoming. Different time, different place, but the universal school will always be in session.
Having said what is possible, are there any negatives or roadblocks to this ambitious undertaking? Of course there are – that’s life. This is a schoolhouse, for ALL your life, and for ALL of us who live here. When you stop growing and learning, this school would serve no purpose in your life. We get to graduate, but our word for such graduation is intimidating, so we dread the possibility. Think about that… when we have nothing to learn from this experience, why would we remain? I now regard that eventual passage as the doorway to new experience.
What about detours or roadblocks? To me, the most important thing to watch for is negative prior programming, such as the poverty consciousness (make-do acceptance) previously described.
- Prior conditioning, particularly social conditioning, can be very strong and needs to be faced and addressed. You are a part of a social ensemble with routines and expectations. You might need to confront such possibilities or make changes to your usual knowns.
- Alternatively, working on having more could prompt guilt feelings or personal judgement. Remind yourself you are allowed to experiment, change and grow. The words, “Oh, I can’t do that” is your warning sign! Really? Habit versus taking a chance?
- You could run into negative outside influence, perhaps well meaning. Those closest to us tend to be more comfortable with routine behavior and social habits. If you share a common religious belief, this new effort could be especially troubling to your close ties.
- Perhaps friends or family might question new or different efforts, wondering if you are on a garden path to nowhere. None of this is intentionally negative, but could create caution flags.
- Do not whitewash known problems such as guilt, judgment, fear. They can blow up on you as you progress. You are attempting to experience more of life. Just confront each issue, acknowledge that they need work, and do the work, eventually healing each issue. When I was learning this, it took me about a year of walking on the beach to unwind multiple issues and another year to build up the positive results. We are all a work in progress. We are good at some things and not so good at others. This is normal, and fixable! For example:
- If you feel aggressive and upset about an issue, acknowledge the feeling but in a controlled circumstance. Find an activity to burn off any volatile energy such as running, hand sanding a board, rigorously mopping a floor, a child’s pound-a-peg game (don’t break it), something to help you discharge any negative energy so you can move beyond the limitation.
Initially, you might pick and choose your issues. At times an issue is so important that you MUST deal with it NOW! Since there will usually be more than one issue or process, don’t take on too much at once. If you have multiple issues (common), perhaps some are a process for another day. Pick what you feel is most important, work it, resolve it, then start on the next most important. Sometimes the issues are “in your face” and won’t get out of the way until you acknowledge them. We are all individuals – what is important to one might mean absolutely nothing to another. You may find out in your healing process that your issue was overstated and not nearly as negative as you imagined. Look around you. Everyone you can see is in school, has issues, has choices; theirs are just different than yours. Not better or worse, just different!
Don’t try to work on too many things at one time, or you can dilute your energy. Give yourself time to work on the most important things first. You can go to multiple requests once you have learned the process. Start with simple, believable possibilities first. Expand that believability through your successes.
Don’t scare yourself about potentially walking away from what is not working in your life. On the other hand, don’t be foolish and throw away an opportunity that has not been sufficiently addressed. Sometimes we need to apply the effort to realize the desired changes. As we evolve our progress, we may learn a few things we didn’t initially know, and our efforts may change. Arguing with ourselves can be confusing. A little emotional detachment would be welcome here, so you can make the best conscious choices. That’s when a simple pro / con list comes in handy. Take a piece of paper, the title is the issue, and draw a line straight down the middle for two columns: pro and con. Put your internal dialogue where you can see it and objectify your choice. Weigh the pros and cons and make your choice!
Think future. We must open and let life flow through us in order to get more out of life. It is just not possible for life to pour itself into a vessel that is already filled to the top. You need to make room for the new, possibly by eliminating some of the old. Don’t be afraid to give things away. It is difficult to navigate life when you are carrying a lot of unnecessary baggage. Assess what is truly useful to you and something you choose to continue as you move forward. If whatever you are holding on to doesn’t fit your criteria, why are you holding on to it? If it doesn’t fit in your future, why would you want to drag it along? This is a much more difficult choice when the object in question is a person. Same concept. The essence is: if you are dragging your past into your future, choose wisely,
Letting go: Don’t give away if you do not give from your heart. A gift given with grudges or strings is not a gift, but is a burden on both the giver and the receiver. Give freely and openly – or not at all. You are creating a space for the universe to fulfill your dreams and goals. Keep moving forward. Let go of whatever does not belong in your future. Easily said, not necessarily easily done.
I mentioned believability earlier. As you learn you will develop the skill to succeed. Don’t attempt the impossible at first, leave it for later. Since this article is about prosperity in general, start at believability such as a new and better job, a new source of income, learning to successfully handle what you have. If you aim for pie in the sky, your subconscious might just laugh at you because internally you don’t truly believe it is possible. You will be fighting yourself. It is your sub- or unconscious mind that will lead the way to your expansion and success as you consciously open more of yourself to possibility.
Don’t make demands on abundance that your subconscious can have no belief in. If you lie to yourself, or make unreasonable demands, your subconscious will have difficulty in accomplishing your goals and not fulfill your programming. It is YOUR subconscious that attracts what you need and want into your life. Your conscious mind places the order and the subconscious fills it, but the subconscious must believe that order is possible.
Recognize that “God gave us life abundantly” – at least that’s what the book says. We unfortunately don’t take God at Its word. Do not deny what your programming brings into your life just because it doesn’t take the form you expected. There’s where the thought process should come in at the beginning. If you have reservations, deal with them here, not when the programming manifests.
You’re going to have to learn to take control of the prosperity (or lack of it) in your life, controlling the money flow, etc., instead of it controlling you. You’re going to learn about flow – that nothing can flow into a full cup, the cup must be ready to receive the flow. Not necessarily empty, but at least allowing some room for life to fill it. That means you must also learn to let go of things, people, circumstance. A dammed-up river goes nowhere. You will have to learn to let go, undam, let the flow occur, create a state of receptivity in your life so that abundance can flow into your life.
Pay attention to what you ask for. Watch the wording and the intent. Spend some time thinking through your requests. When you DO get what you ASK for, be sure it IS what you want. Watch for unusual twists in the way the gifts come through, or the time factor involved in generating what you want. Be sure that what you ask for IS what you want. Word it carefully. Whether you speak it or write it, your subconscious will be fulfilling your enlarging perspective.
Do yourself a favor. Keep your initial work private. You are working on SELF fulfillment. YOU are the concept, the goal and the way to that goal. Don’t allow yourself to be sidetracked by someone else’s “better” idea. You also don’t want to get hung up in negative feedback. You can share later. Once you connect the parts of your consciousness into a workable pattern, you will not be easily distracted or side-tracked. Initially trust in yourself to evolve that connection between your consciousnesses. Once you are solid in that connection, you can share what you have learned. And… you can examine other possibilities from a solid sense of self.
The conscious mind is quite linear. One thought leads to another in a common personal sequence. The subconscious thinks more conceptually and symbolically. We can use simple techniques to help ourselves get started, sort of a temporary crutch to help us achieve that permanent “flow” between our consciousnesses. Remember a technique is a temporary crutch to help you towards a permanent “flow” state of consciousness – in this instance, prosperity!
Meditation Using positive statements is a good way to begin.
- Create some private time where you can turn inward and develop a positive prosperity outlook for yourself.
- Start with a few slow, deep cleansing breaths, drawing in positive universal energy, allowing it to circulate throughout your body, cleansing any negative thoughts or energy, exhaling that breath and thoughts back into the life force that is the universe.
- Once you are calm and centered, inhale the increasingly positive universal energy, feeling yourself receive and expand your sense of self, then exhale any self-defeating thoughts (no doubts allowed) for a few breaths.
- Center your thoughts now on having more in your life as you inhale. As it circulates through your body, feel yourself becoming more positive in attracting what you need into your life; as always, letting go of any restrictions or barriers.
- Focus on prosperity and abundance in your life on the inhales, letting go of the old on the cleansing exhales. Know always that you are worthy of abundance. Know that your life is filled with that constantly increasing abundance.
- Slowly return to your conscious state knowing that you are blessed, and that abundance and prosperity are the “norm” in your life.
- Always give thanks to the universe for your wonderful life and opportunity.
Here are a few abundance statements you can use within your meditation once you have centered on abundance:
- “Divine Order is established and maintained in my financial affairs now.”
- “I am rich, well, and happy in every phase of my life now.”
- “Everybody and everything prospers me now.”
- “I am a money magnet.”
- “I create beauty, joy, health, happiness, and more money with my money.”
- “Every dollar I spend comes back to me multiplied.”
- “I deserve to be wealthy.”
As you live your life, seed those statements whenever the opportunity presents itself. A private moment, an inspiring thought, a moment of gratitude. Whenever you pay out or give something, seed it. Know that as you open yourself up and flow outward with good for others, that good will also flow into your life as promised, pressed down, overflowing, many times the gift and the giving. Always give willingly for the good or benefit of the person receiving it, and for your own good. As I paid my bills in my learning process, I made sure I was grateful that I had the money to pay the bills and wanted good for the receivers.
Accept the good that comes into your life, no matter what form it takes. Way back when I was learning, I needed shoes for work. I programmed for them. One day my young son came in holding two pairs of shoes in my size and style. I said, “Where did you get them?” He had found several pairs of shoes in boxes by the neighbor’s trash can. That made no sense to me, so I asked him to ask the neighbor. They worked in a shoe store and were getting rid of them. Seventeen pairs of shoes in my size! I was not greedy, took what I needed, but I was very grateful. You never know how the universe will answer your prayer!
Don’t deny the flow once it has begun; you’ll just dam up your own river AGAIN. Accept what the Universe gives by whatever way it gives you. Also be willing to give when and wherever and to whomever you can. Stay in the flow, accept the flow, give the flow… that increases the universal flow.
How about picture board programming? You can cut out pictures of things you would like to have, put them up were you see them repeatedly, and affirm that you have that thing NOW. Always stay in the now. Do NOT use future descriptions or your good can remain in your future and not arrive in the NOW. Choose your words carefully.
What color is money? In our country it’s green. In other countries it might be another color. Green is the color of balance, of healing, of growth, and for us… cold, hard, cash. So, we can use green to symbolize money, and then we can find ways to put that color to work in our lives. Suggestions:
- Use a candle for meditation, green.
- If you need it more definitive, wrap a dollar bill around the base or underneath it (just don’t start a fire).
- Meditate on abundance as long as you are comfortable and focused.
- Wear green or use a green wallet.
- Put a green paper stating that something is already paid for in your wallet or post it where you will see it frequently (a mirror, etc.) to remind you to stay focused on a positive outcome.
- Affirm and reaffirm abundance, i.e.: “Abundance flows through my life now!”
- DO NOT dwell on your money problems as you can power the negative.
- Dwell on abundance, plenty, flow, usefulness, application, etc.
- Your subconscious will follow the direction your thoughts take you. Choose wisely!
The Law of Abundance: Take out your checkbook and write yourself an unlimited check from “the Law of Abundance”. You can use more than one check for specifics, but I recommend one open-ended one first, and to work on one project at a time for specifics.
- Date: current
- Pay to the order of: Your name as receiver
- Amount: $000.00/xx (your choice, just not less than three zeros)
- Dollar Amount: Paid in Full
- Signed: The Law of Abundance
- FOR: “to cover all needs” or to work on special projects.
Don’t have a checkbook? Use a cash receipt blank:
- Date: Current
- Received from: The Law of Abundance
- Dollars: Paid in Full
- Reason: same as on check – two ways (all or special)
- Dollar Amount: same as check $000.00/xx
- Signed: Your name as receiver.
- Once you have it complete, place the check or receipt in your wallet.
- Reinforce it periodically or write a new check or receipt, whichever works with your belief system.
Timing You can begin a prosperity program any time you choose. Having said that, there is a choice cyclic time to begin. The good book says there is a time for all seasons under the sun. That time is the New Moon each month. The joining of the Sun and Moon in the sky is the beginning measure for all cycles. That cycle is dark, as the light from the Sun is on the side of the Moon facing away from the earth. The night sky is dark because the planting of any seed takes place in the dark. You can start your prosperity programming at the time of the New Moon or within 72 hours after the New Moon.
In addition, four days out of the year have special significance and special energy for undertaking new tasks, the Equinoxes (spring and fall) and the solstices (summer and winter), approximately March 21st, June 21st, September 21st, and Dec 21st. Exact dates and times are available in the news and online or ask your local librarian.
Time for some fun! Take out a dollar bill. Look at it. Recognize that the dollar bill tends to control our lives. Think of a person setting fire to a hundred-dollar bill… it bothers us. We know the value of that $100 in our lives. We don’t want to see it unnecessarily destroyed, especially if we need it. Our social conditioning has trained us to let money or the lack of it control our lives. Time to take back control of your own life! We’re going to take dominion over money and our life using that dollar bill as a symbol. Put that dollar bill on the floor. Now, jump up and down on top of it, yelling, “You don’t own me – I own you. You are my money and will flow through my life in great abundance. I am in charge of the abundance in my life, and I choose to let it flow through my life in great, large sums, constantly. I am in control, and I accept the promise that life is mine abundantly.”
Now that you have severely trounced on that dollar bill, pick it up and fold it into thirds with the pyramid topped with the “all seeing eye” on the outside top. You want that eye to seek out ways to bring money and prosperity into your life. Put it in your wallet and tell it to look for money to fill your wallet. DO NOT spend this particular dollar bill. You can occasionally reinforce the program. When you are ready, try the same thing with a $10, a $20, $100 or more bill (these may not have the all-seeing eye, so look at the symbols on the back of the bill to give you a “hook”, such as a building suggesting organization and structure.
Note: You cannot imagine the fun of watching a room of adults doing this during a live class. The energy expended is tremendous, the laughter is contagious, FUN! And it works!
Pyramid Power Get yourself a small pyramid (material or size does not matter). Place it where others will not bother it.
- Write yourself a brief prosperity program.
- Use only positive outcome statements.
- Think always in the now.
- Try not to place limitations.
- Think… is there anything you do not want? (choose words carefully)
- “And it harm none” is a great phrase to add.
- One thing at a time, stay simple.
- Use green paper and / or green ink if it helps.
- Once done, fold it three times while you think about what you want.
- Do not dwell on your needs but on the fulfillment of your needs.
- Hold it between your hands and really project your belief and your energy into it.
- Place it under the pyramid and put it somewhere it will not be disturbed.
- Every time you think about it or see the pyramid, reinforce that positive outcome.
After the third day (72 hours), take the paper out, open it up, read it, and think about what you’ve asked.
- Be sure this is really what you want, no questions or doubts.
- Know that you are a child of the Universe and an inheritor of the Universal.
- You are worthy of abundance; you are open to the flow and the good.
- Take the paper to a very safe place outside and set it on fire. Be careful! DO NOT set anyone or anything else on fire.
- Fire is the universal symbol for Spirit. When you burn your program, you are turning it over to the Universe (by whatever label) for fulfillment. Use whatever thought process gives you comfort, belief, success.
- The universe is abundant. You are a child of that universe, the inheritor. You have the right to that abundance. Then you “Let go and let God”.
Use whatever symbolism helps you: fire is one, burying in earth is another (planting a seed), tearing up the note and throwing it to the four winds (chance), flushing it down the toilet, or putting it in a bottle and sending it out to sea (imagination), whatever works (imagine the person who finds the bottle). Any physical act will aid you in that “letting go” process. If your mind wanders back, visualize the letting go and leave the program alone. Then give it time to work. The universe works on its own time, not necessarily yours.
You like to sing? Chant or sing this ditty to reinforce the positive:
“I want Money, lots and lots of money, I want some pie in the sky.
I want money, lots and lots of money, and don’t be asking me why.
I want to be rich! I want to be rich! I want to be rich!”
There are so many abundance programs currently available in the marketplace. Research and practice can open more doors for you. Choose wisely!
