Women’s Rights, Article 2 – The 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution

When I did the first article on women’s rights, little did I realize what a Pandora’s box I was opening and what astrological riches I would encounter on my journey back in time. My first article was on the first Women’s Rights Convention held July 19, 1848 in Seneca Falls, New York, hosted by the movement’s famous ladies and some progressive gentlemen of that era. That convention set the stage for the ongoing women’s rights crusade throughout the intervening years right up until today’s era, and that movement is experiencing its 164-65th year of existence with its very first Neptune return (164.7 years). Yes, the natal position of Neptune is being activated by the current transit of Neptune. Astrologers do not usually have the opportunity to research such an event because it is outside the realm of human years but a country or a movement lasts much longer than a human life span and makes a Neptune return viewable.

Neptune is at 2 Pisces 06R in that natal chart conjunct the natal Moon at 7 Pisces 07. A Neptune return is a transit so it is natural to look at the balance of the current transits. Imagine my surprise when I realized that transiting Saturn was running amok with major activations to the Women’s Rights chart. With natal Sun 26 Can 59, Mercury 27 Can 02R, Venus 26 Can 03, Uranus 22 Ari 14 and Pluto 27 Ari 54, transiting Saturn in late Libra was squaring the Cancer positions and opposing the Aries positions, creating a mobile T-square battling five of the ten natal planetary positions. Not only that, but those positions tie closely into the U.S. natal Mercury at 24 Can 20R and natal Pluto at 27 Cap 33R. Our mobile T-square just turned into a Grand Cross triggered by Saturn. Perhaps you can see today’s issues: traditional, conservative, and at times dictatorial Saturn playing out in our very visible political War on Women through Saturn triggering the individual T-Square and the collective Grand Cross. Who represents Saturn? The political right. Who or what is under assault? The natal and progressed positions in the chart of the Women’s Rights movement.

To complete that transiting picture, Uranus is in early Aries and Pluto is in early Capricorn – neither is triggering anything in particular in the Women’s Rights natal chart. So current action is being generated by both Neptune and Saturn, who are not necessarily the best of friends.

I have explained the Saturn activation above. To me, Neptune represents the spiritual essence of a person, a country or a movement. The return of Neptune to its original position would trigger the initial spiritual essence with an awakening of a current spiritual essence. My curiosity ran away with me (as often happens), and I did the year-by-year progressions for the whole 165 years on my handy-dandy spreadsheet. The retrograde Neptune turned direct circa 1963 in late Aquarius and for 2012 is at 00 Pis 30. Transiting Neptune has been sashaying back and forth across 00 Pis 30 to 2 Pis 06 this whole last year and finishes the passage on February 2, 2013. It does retrograde within a half degree of the natal position in mid-November of 2013, but does not complete the activation. The active time is really now.

Are women truly awake and aware (Neptune return) of the threat to their rights visible in the Women’s Rights natal chart? I hope so, because the completion of this Neptune return and the final activation of Saturn to those cardinal positions happened just three scant weeks ago. The Saturn/right-wing onslaught has done whatever damage it can do to women’s rights. Was any female listening? Are we willing to join those courageous women of 1848 to defend our own rights or will we let ourselves be conned or lulled into the passive acceptance that would be negative Neptune?

Do not let your guard down yet if you think the activation is finished. Remember that natal Moon at 7 Pis 07? That quintuple (five-time) activation awaits us in 2014 and 2015. This is not a done deal yet.

Imagine my surprise when I plugged in the 19th Amendment to our Constitution and realized that the key degrees for that chart were the Sun at 3 Vir 07 opposition Uranus at 3 Pis 43R. OMG, Neptune is about to trigger the Sun/Ura opposition. Could our lax attitude on this attack on our assumed rights jeopardize the 19th Amendment and all it represents to women? Needless to say, I spent some time on the transits and the progressions of this whole complex: our country, the Women’s Rights Convention, the 19th Amendment and the upcoming election just three weeks away as I write this. Just what are the connections and activations? Why didn’t I research this earlier?

  • The U.S. chart progressed to the 19th Amendment puts the Sun 4 Sag 08, the Moon
7 Gem 31 (Full Moon), and Ura at 9 Gem 09R – all positions activated in 2013-15.
  • The 19th Amendment 2012 progressed Sun is 4 Sag 22. Bingo!
  • Prog Ura is 01 Pis 51, dancing with transiting Neptune.
  • The 2012 election chart and diurnals for all charts have Mercury 4 Sag 18 and Neptune 4 Pis 22R, a nice tight square activating those 4˚ mutable positions.

Women of America…I hope you are awake and alert because we are in real trouble here.

What else is happening, most specifically to the 19th Amendment chart?

  • Tr (transiting) Neptune opposes the Sun on Feb 28, 1013, Sep 29, 2013 and finishes Dec 27, 2013.
  • Tr Neptune conjuncts Uranus on Mar 17, 2013, Sep 5, 2013 and finishes Jan 17, 2014.
  • Tr Nep squares the prog Sun on May 6, 2013, Aug 12, 2013 and finishes Feb 6, 2014.
  • Tr Nep conjuncts prog Ura Feb 2, 2012, Aug 20, 2012 finishes Jan 25, 2013.
  • Tr Plu opposes natal Pluto Feb 7, 2012, Jun 18, 2012 and finishes Dec 10, 2012.
  • Tr Pluto opposes prog Pluto slightly earlier, finishing Dec 8, 2012.
  • Tr Pluto opposes prog Ven five times in 2013-14: Mar 3, May 24, Dec 29, 2013
  • and Aug 27 and Oct 10, 2014.
  • Tr Ura squares Pluto Jul 13, 2012 at station, Mar 30, 2013 and Dec 17, 2013.
  • Tr Ura squares prog Pluto ending Mar 29, 2013.
  • Tr Ura squares prog Ven May 19, Sep 17, 2013 and Mar 10, 2014.
  • Tr Sat squares Mer Dec 31, 2013, May 8, 2014 and finishes Sep 29, 2014.
  • Tr Sat squares Jupiter Dec 22, 2014, Jun 16, 2014 and finishes Sep 16, 2015.
  • Tr Saturn also makes single passes over several fixed positions:
    • square Nep Oct 19, 2013, square prog Nep Nov 2, 2013, square prog Mer Nov 23, 2013,
    • and square Mars Nov 4, 2014.

That is a tremendous number of activations and dates spread from 2012 through 2015, all hard aspects: conjunctions, oppositions and squares listed only. The 19th Amendment is under onslaught. The rights of women that have been hard-earned and fought for are at stake. Will the women of today have the courage of the women of yesteryear?

Stay tuned for the next article in this series, because I did find a chart that pre-dated the 1848 Women’s rights convention. It is not a primary chart, but it does tie that event to the movement. It involved the brave ladies who gave birth to the women’s movement setting a previous precedent that led to the formation of the 1848 movement. And then there is always Roe v Wade as I mentioned in article 1. Oh dear – that’s four articles! This is growing exponentially!
