The Ingresses

Let me tell you up front that I have never done much with ingress charts. I had been educated by some ingress work that Astrologer Maggie Meister had shared with me, but had not taken the time to do the research and the learning curve myself. Astrologically, ingress generally means a body moves into 00˚00’ of a sign (i.e., it enters or ingresses). Using the entrance of the Sun into each of the signs yearly, the four cardinal ingresses are considered primary: Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn. In my search for more information, I wondered if the cardinal solar ingresses would give me any support or answers as to Hurricane Sandy and the devastation it caused. So, I cast the chart for the 2012 Aries Ingress for Atlantic City, NJ just to see what I could see: March 20, 2012, 1:14:30 AM EDT. Then I just stared at it for a time, waiting for a light to go on. It was not quite as dramatic as that, so let’s just say that I sat quietly and took the chart in.
2012 Aries Ingress
March 20, 2012, 1:14:30 AM EDT
Atlantic City, NJ
It was surprising to find all the four markers we have been watching throughout this Hurricane Sandy research very visible:
- mid-mutable rising
- with early cardinal on the midheaven,
- early mutable Moon / Neptune,
- Saturn close but out of sign to early fixed.
All four ingresses will always be 00 cardinal, so that is a given, not a bonanza moment. Having said that, the 2012 Aries ingress had both Mercury and Uranus very close to that Sun tightly on the IC in the 4th. Because the whole of this chart theory rests on the ingress at 00˚00’ cardinal, regardless of longitude or latitude, each individual chart would be accurate for that location on the globe once the coordinates are applied. The individual house layouts would be dependent on those longitude / latitude coordinates anywhere in the world. This study is about Hurricane Sandy and its official landfall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, so those are our coordinates.
- Sun, Mercury, Uranus, and IC are located at 0 to 4 Aries 15, widely square Pluto 9 Capricorn 27. That Uranus square Pluto is has shown itself to be definitely active, so I will note it for this study, early cardinal.
- Moon 2 Pisces 43 conjunct Neptune 1 Pisces 41, early mutable; can you say “water”?
- Mars 7 Virgo 38R square N Node 7 Sagittarius 42R, not quite early mutable but the nearly exact aspect (4’) is worth watching.
- Jupiter 10 Taurus 47 widely conjunct Venus 15 Taurus 50. Jupiter is the ingress chart ruler.
- Saturn 28 Libra 06R is not on our main list, but I have seen several similar positions throughout this study. It is out of sign but close (2˚) to early fixed.
- Ascendant 13 Sagittarius 53, mid-mutable, critical to the Hurricane Sandy Mars / Jupiter opposition.
All the positions in this ingress tie closely into our Hurricane Sandy information. This ingress is about seven months prior to the formation of Sandy. Four out of four possibilities that far prior to the event got my attention.
2012 Cancer Ingress
June 20, 2012, 7:09:10 PM EDT
Atlantic City, NJ
What does the closer-to-event 2012 Cancer ingress show? June 20, 2012, 7:09:10 PM EDT, again Atlantic City, NJ. The house cusps are almost identical to the Aries Ingress. Is that usual? I reset the chart just to be sure and it came out the same. I set a couple of ingresses for the year prior to see if it could be repeating angles every year and that was not true, they are unique to each period. So, this might be worthy of noting.
- Ascendant 13 Sagittarius 57, mid mutable, again critical to the Sandy Mars / Jupiter opposition.
- MC 2 Libra 39 early cardinal squaring the ingress Sun in Cancer.
- Uranus 8 Aries 20 tightly square Pluto 8 Capricorn 29R; this long-lasting square is too far to be considered early cardinal, but the pairing is extremely causative.
- Neptune 3 Pisces 05R square S Node 4 Gemini 58R, Jupiter 2 Gemini 05, and Venus 8 Gemini 22R; early mutable (watch for activation to the midpoint).
- Moon 15 Cancer 06 wide conjunction Mercury 23 Cancer 12 in the 8th square Saturn 22 Libra 47R. I would keep this under consideration because the Moon travels 1˚ every two hours on the clock, or sixteen hours on this day’s clock.
There is no early fixed in this chart, but three of the four areas we are watching are active.
2012 Libra Ingress
September 22, 2012, 10:49 AM EDT
Atlantic City, NJ
What does the 2012 Libra ingress show, the ingress that immediately preceded the Hurricane Sandy event? The house cusps dramatically changed.
- Ascendant 17 Scorpio 34 conjunct Mars 19 Scorpio 53, Mars rising and ruling.
- Mercury 9 Libra 44 opposite Uranus 6 Aries 49R, square Pluto 6 Capricorn 58, T-square, too wide to be early cardinal, but a very powerful aspect.
- Saturn 28 Libra 29, out of sign but close to early fixed.
- Neptune 00 Pisces 59R wide conjunct out of sign IC 27 Aquarius 31, early mutable.
- Jupiter 16 Gemini 09 conjunct 8th cusp of catastrophe or destiny. This can be significant because it is the ruler of both the Aries and Cancer ingresses, and mid-mutable for the Hurricane Sandy Mars / Jupiter opposition.
- There is no applicable early cardinal, but three of the four areas in question are active.
2011 Capricorn Ingress
December 22, 2011, 12:30:25 AM EST
Atlantic City, NJ
What about the 2011 Capricorn ingress, an even earlier precedent to the Hurricane Sandy event? Again, the house cusps are markedly different, but the connections are consistent.
- Midheaven 7 Cancer 55 square Ascendant 6 Libra 56, grand cross with Uranus 00 Aries 42 and Pluto 6 Capricorn 58, early cardinal.
- Venus 1 Aquarius 48 square Jupiter 00 Taurus 23R, early fixed, with out of signSaturn 27 Libra 36 close by the early fixed area.
- N Node 14 Sagittarius 16 square Mars 17 Virgo 23, mid mutable, critical to the Sandy Mars / Jupiter opposition.
- Moon 26 Scorpio 00 square Neptune 28 Aquarius 39, lots of water.
- Mercury 8 Sagittarius 18, not close enough for early mutable and extremely wide to mid-mutable.
- There is no reliable early mutable. but three of the four areas are consistent.
This brief study shows definite connections to the HS event with four ingresses beginning December, 2011. I do not think I could have predicted catastrophe from them, but I can learn from them forensically.
In my research enthusiasm, I made an error by casting the December, 2012 Capricorn ingress. Why an error? Because it was after the fact of Hurricane Sandy. But I was still very surprised by the chart and decided to include it: 6:11:40 AM EST, Atlantic City, NJ. Think about after-the-fact or residual effects from the horrendous Hurricane. Let me preface these comments by saying that, as I researched this early in the morning of February 7, 2013, I was watching another “storm of the century” approaching the same New York / New England area. It was a winter storm named Nemo, not a hurricane variety. According to the chart there would be lots of water in the form of sleet, snow and eventual ice. I did not cast any of the 2013 ingresses as they were too far after the fact for my research, but anything triggered could show residual effects of Hurricane Sandy.
- Midheaven 4 Libra 17, Sun 00 Capricorn 00, Pluto 8 Capricorn 57, Uranus 4 Aries 38, wide T-square, watch the midpoint, early cardinal.
- Ascendant 15 Sagittarius 12, Mercury 14 Sagittarius 42, mid-mutable.
- N Node 25 Scorpio 37 opposite Caput Algol, malefic fixed star degree.
- Venus 6 Sagittarius 35 opposite Jupiter 8 Gemini 54R, very wide separating square Neptune 00 Pisces 49, questionable early mutable.
- Not as strong a showing as the HS disaster, but I’m still glad I investigated.
Feb 16, 2013, 3:45 PM I thought I was done with this project, but I was wrong. I had a Time Cycles IO Cartography module that I had not had the opportunity to experiment with. I decided to add the new maps to the five ingress charts in this chapter just to have a different perspective. For the examples I chose, the close-up feature to make it easier to read. I had taken an early workshop on Astrocartograpy by Jim Lewis to help me learn. For introductory material: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Locational_astrology and
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Lewis_(astrologer)
For those of you who are not familiar with astro-locality charting, my Io Cartography map draws the location of planets on the angles directly on a flat world map. It is simple to see if any planetary angles pass through the location of the target area. The vertical lines on the maps represent the Midheaven / IC angles and the curved lines represent the Ascendant / Descendant angles. If you see crossings between the two sets of lines (X marks the spot), lay a ruler right on that point of crossing and look horizontally along the ruler edge to see if it coincides with the target latitude. Some close-up example maps provided do not show the entire worldview, so all crossings may not be visible; but there should be an axis from one side of the globe to the other.
2011 Capricorn Ingress
2012 Aries Ingress
2012 Cancer Ingress
2012 Libra Ingress
2012 Capricorn Ingress
- The 2011 Capricorn ingress gives Pluto on the angle just west of the Hurricane Sandy impact area. This was about a year earlier than the event itself.
- The 2012 Aries ingress gives Mercury angular on Atlantic City and New York City with Uranus slightly to the east but quite close by.
- The 2012 Cancer ingress does not have an angular planet near either city, but… out in the Atlantic Ocean, the Sun / Saturn lines cross and the ruler’s edge will lead you to…Atlantic City, NJ. There is a second crossing visible near Louisville, KY but it is too far south of the target area to be specifically applicable to Hurricane Sandy’s landfall.
- The 2012 Libra ingress is about five weeks prior to the event. The closest angular planets are Mars and Neptune, but they are out to sea just off the east coast. A hint of possibility. Put the ruler on the crossing point and look horizontally to the left. Bingo! New York City and Atlantic City are in the cross hairs.
- The 2012 Capricorn ingress took place after Hurricane Sandy hit, but that same area shows Uranus on the angle right on New York City. The city itself just dodged a major bullet when winter storm Nemo came through, but Nemo did impact Long Island. Look at the Mercury trajectory line as Nemo cut a devastating swath through the New England states.
Once I finished with the five ingress charts, I wondered what the hurricane landfall charts would look like on the world map, so I cast both the 8:00 PM and the midnight choices. The IO Cartogrraphy maps leave no doubt as to which of the landfall choices had the maximum effect. We had been following mid-mutable degrees where the ongoing Mars / Jupiter opposition lived.
Hurricane Sandy
Atlantic City, NJ, 8 PM
Hurricane Sandy
Atlantic City, NJ, Midnight
- In the 8:00 PM hurricane chart they are both directly on the angle with Jupiter cutting right through Atlantic City and Mars cutting through New York City. Amazingly exact hits.
- The close to midnight choice puts the Mars / Jupiter opposition well out to sea with no planets angular on either New York City or Atlantic City and no crossing lines that I can see on this map.
The 8:00 PM choice on October 29, 2012, is the most viable IO Cartography chart for Hurricane Sandy. Because the storm was so large (1100 miles in diameter) and covered such a wide area in its travels, the onslaught was still showing in the “close to midnight” chart. But in my view, it was more ongoing-ness of the storm, not the initial impact.
Fast forward to my current (2023) editing. Having reviewed all that I had developed, I was still incomplete with my results, and was on the hunt for more definitive map indications. Went back into my IO Cartography module and blew my own mind, again! I was monkeying with the choices offered for mapping and pressed some buttons I had apparently not pressed before. Without warning, the most amazing map possible appeared on my screen. I could clearly see the 2012 Libra Ingress chart specifically indicate Atlantic City, NJ / New York City targeted for the Hurricane Sandy impact. Needless to say, I printed that new version of that ingress chart to replace the original map (see the source notes at the end of this chapter). There is no doubt that the Hurricane Sandy landfall was written in the stars three weeks prior as shown in the 2012 Libra Ingress chart.
